Some of our patients may need to make significant lifestyle changes in order to best implement and benefit from the healing power of functional medicine. Change can sometimes be difficult to realize alone, so having a “helping hand“ in the form of a health coach can be a complete game changer in achieving your health goals! Here at Squirrel Hill Family Wellness Center, we are so very pleased to have Hyla Urbany on staff as our Practice Manager and Health Coach to bolster your health endeavors with her amazing health coaching program that each patient may elect to add to their experience with us. Hyla Urbany – Certified Holistic Health Coach

Health coaching is a process that facilitates healthy, sustainable behavior change through goal setting, support and lifestyle changes. It’s the newest branch of medicine that can help to reduce the costs of chronic disease and provide better patient outcomes.

Hyla earned her health coaching credentials at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in NYC and is board certified as a Holistic Health Practitioner through the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. She is also trained in First Line Therapy to help patients with metabolic syndrome.

She has worked with a wide range of patients: men and women from 25-85 with obesity, food addiction, binge eating disorder, type 2 diabetes, autoimmunity, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and other conditions.

She works with patients on the lifestyle changes that they’ll need to make in order to reach optimal health: their diet, movement, sleep, distress management and connection. She leads by example and knows what it’s like to do the work that she’s asking her patients to do. Being solution oriented, she’ll give you the best strategies for implementing these changes that will work with your life and situation. Hyla also creates workshops to educate our patients, new comers and community on topics that will positively impact their health and well-being. Please contact us if you would like for her to speak on a health and wellness topic at your company or organization.

In her free time, she’s reading yet another health, wellness or personal development book, listening to endless podcasts, taking an urban hike or planning her next trip or excursion.

Stories of Success with Hyla

Hyla… I am here sitting at the airport about to head to Florida for my mother’s 80th birthday. I so wanted to reach out and thank you for your EXPERT coaching. I usually dread Florida trips, however, I am so psyched for this one!! My clothes are loose… I am almost in the 170s! I feel so in control of my eating; I had a great work-week. I feel like a new person. I did my budget before I left! I rallied and got a live listing before I left. I just feel terrific! What’s interesting is that my joy is not as much from the weight loss as it is from the control/normalcy I feel. Food addiction is so profoundly miserable. My head just feels so clear. Thank you, thank you!

I have been receiving nutritional coaching from Ms. Hyla Urbany for about four months. Before seeing her, I thought my diet was just fine: fruits, cooked vegetables, chicken, fish and salads, but also breads, desserts, chocolate and other candies and gooey salad dressings. After a few months of Hyla’s coaching and encouragement, I gave up all of the foods and beverages that had been causing my health problems. I strongly recommend Hyla. She is an exceptional nutritional counselor.

Through the FLT (First Line Therapy) program, which Hyla guided and supported me through, I was able to completely change my prepared and processed food diet and sedentary lifestyle. When I first came to her, I had no idea how to prepare my own food or even what I should eat to become healthy. I could not even begin. Also, I felt so physically sick and tired that I could barely move. I now prepare my own food, go outside and walk, meditate, go to yoga classes, and have even started back at the YMCA. I have to admit that is not always easy, but Hyla’s knowledge and caring encouragement is priceless! Thanks again Hyla!!!!!!!!

I had the pleasure of working with Hyla Urbany in the summer of 2016. I wanted to work on two goals – lose weight and lower my cholesterol. I had gained approximately 25lbs after I went through menopause. My cholesterol numbers had rise as I had gained weight. My PCP wanted to put me on cholesterol-lowering medication, but I kept telling her that I would lower it myself. When I got the email about working with Hyla, I decided to see what she had to offer.

I had been a vegetarian since 1996; I am allergic to wheat and soy. I changed my diet to accommodate these issues. I thought I was eating in a healthy manner, then I talked to Hyla. She pointed out that I had too many carbohydrates in my diet and not enough vegetables. She wanted me to eat 9 servings of vegetables per day. At that point I thought she was crazy–9 servings! Hyla gave me a list of foods that I would benefit from eating. I decided to try this eating plan because I was very unhappy with my weight and cholesterol. Hyla wanted me to have 20 grams of protein at every meal.

I have lost 20lbs and my cholesterol is back to normal. I am so thrilled with the results! Thanks to Hyla, I look in the mirror and see myself again!”
